We investigate the numbers behind flashlights.

FactnFoton is a flashlight research publication built around a simple idea: a specification is only useful when you understand what it means.

Why FactnFoton exists

Flashlight buying has become increasingly technical.

A product page might give you maximum lumens, candela, beam distance, runtime figures, battery capacity, charging speeds, waterproof ratings and several other specifications.

The problem is that these numbers are often presented without enough context for a buyer to understand what they mean in practice.

FactnFoton exists to fill that gap.

We investigate flashlight specifications and claims, explain the underlying concepts, examine the available evidence and turn the technical details into information that a normal buyer can actually use.

01

Separate the claim from the evidence

When a manufacturer publishes a specification, we treat it as a published claim and identify its source rather than silently presenting it as our own measurement.
02

Context matters as much as the number

A specification can look impressive and still tell you very little without understanding the conditions, definitions and tradeoffs behind it.
03

Say what the evidence cannot prove

Good research does not require pretending to know everything. Where evidence is limited or conflicting, that uncertainty should remain visible.

Our Vision

A flashlight market where specifications are understood, claims are examined, and buyers can make decisions based on information rather than marketing alone.

Our Mission

To investigate flashlight specifications and claims, trace them to their sources, explain the technical concepts behind them, and make the available evidence useful to ordinary buyers.

Before you trust the number, understand the number.

Explore FactnFoton’s flashlight research and learn what the specifications actually tell you.
